never a dull moment...

so I won't be blogging this often, but not 3 minutes after I posted the last post, Jack said "I poop" again and then threw up all over himself while sitting on the potty. Thankfully, I think it was due to eating his fruit snacks too fast, and not some approaching virus. So after a change of clothes, sponge bath, teeth brushing, load of laundry and lots of hugs later, we're back to normal. With parenting there is NEVER a dull moment.

"I poop!!"

So it's my turn to blog now =) Little Jack and I are hanging out at home tonight, while Nic is on campus. We are immersed in the potty "learning" process. I guess potty "training" is no longer the pc way to describe it. Poor Jack is trying so hard to keep his training pants clean, but is really gassy for some reason tonight. So every 5 minutes he comes running to me exclaiming, "I poop!!", when in fact, it's just gas. But heaven forbid I tell him "it's just gas", send him on his way, and then have him poop his pants because I wouldn't take him to the potty. I have never had to exercise more patience and grace for my child than now. I read this article from "What to Expect: The Toddler Years"that said that potty learning is like learning to walk- you don't punish your child for falling down, because you know that's part of the learning process. At least for now, he's not having accidents because he's being spiteful. That has helped me be way more patient with the learning process.

And after an hour of gas, and 20 trips to the potty, he pooped. Hallelujah!

"swallow your food"

Jack and I have been at the dinner table for 40 minutes. He's been pocketing a bite of pasta (like a chipmunk) for the past 15 minutes. He's fighting tooth and nail not to eat two bites of food, one of which is already half way there. Personally, I can't believe it hasn't already dissolved by now!

In our small group we've been reading "Shepherding a Child's Heart" by Tedd Tripp (Challies gives a great review of it). Tripp makes a great point that children don't just need behavior modification, they need heart modification. It's not as much about the external action as it is about the internal posture of the heart. So right now I'm trying to figure out my son's heart. Is it his sinful stubbornness? His dislike of Hunt's? Or maybe he just doesn't understand the reasoning behind it all? This is my best (rookie) attempt at training him to humbly submit to a dad who sometimes gives him what he needs, rather than what he wants. And I figure, my folks did it, and now I like brussel sprouts :)

It's 7:05. The bites gone. Or dissolved?

iBlogger

Well, it's official. We're blogging. How much is yet to be seen but the fact we've got this fancy, good lookin' (I think), free blog site is a pretty major first step.

I'm a little intimidated by the idea of blogging. I've been told by fellas like Justin Taylor there's an art to it. And on top of that I'm the kind of guy who likes to "measure twice and cut once", at least with my words. Sometimes I "measure" 10 times because I care too much about how I'll come across. Christy's different. She can cruise at 60 wpm and have a finished product of the actual words she'd say, had you heard it from her over coffee. So, please bear with us as we (I) get the hang of this.

The point of why we're blogging is right there in our title. To tell of God's work in our lives and in the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ at Cornell University. We've been blessed by God to have so many family and friends involved in our journey these past years. As a way to "speak of God's faithfulness" to us and stay connected with others, we figured to capitalize on the world of blogging could accomplish both. We're looking forward to keeping in touch in a way that's less formal (and hopefully far more frequent) than our monthly prayer letters. Speaking of which, we'll probably start posting those here too, once I navigate the technology in order to do that :)

We're looking forward to this.
